Which Eyelash Extension Should I Get?

Updated: Oct 2, 2018

If you’re asking yourself which eyelash extension is the best for you, chances are you've got some unanswered questions about styles, cost and maintenance. Choosing a set of lash extensions can feel a little overwhelming if it's your first time, so read through our guide before booking an appointment—eyelash extensions last anywhere between 2-6 weeks, depending on the style you go for, so it's a good idea to make an informed decision about what you're committing to!

Silk vs Cashmere Eyelash Extensions

First, let's straighten out a common misconception: silk and cashmere eyelash extensions aren't fibres sourced from caterpillars or goats. Despite their names, both silk and cashmere lashes are made from a high quality synthetic fibre called PBT (or Polybutylene terephthalate). Cashmere lashes are thinner, softer and up to 60% lighter than silk lashes, making them the most popular and natural eyelash extensions. They're more flexible too, so curl retention is twice as strong, and they last longer than silk lashes. Sitting at the top of the market, cashmere lashes are slightly more expensive than silk ones—at our studio, we charge an additional $30 for these premium lashes. However, silk lashes are perfectly fine too!

Natural Babe or Glamour Queen?

Some people like skinny jeans, while others like bootleg, flared or boyfriend. Everyone's got their individual style and preference, and the same goes for lashes, which is why at Lash For Ever, we offer 4 types of eyelash extensions: Subtle, Medium, Full and Glamour. These sets can be applied in silk or cashmere, and are customized to your preferred length and thickness.

Our Subtle set is our most discreet beauty solution, designed for those who wear little or no makeup, and this is the one we recommend to new clients. If you think these lashes are too quiet, then the next step up is Medium, which is the equivalent of wearing lashings of mascara. Think full and dark, without over-exaggerating the natural lashes. Our Full and Glamour sets are more dramatic, making them perfect for special occasions.

Caring for Your Lash Extensions

While style is important, how you maintain your lashes is what will determine their longevity. If you want eyelash extensions to be a continual part of your beauty regimen, you'll need to put into practice the proper eyelash extension care routine. Here are some key things to remember:

  • Avoid water and steam on the lashes for 48 hours after getting them applied.

  • Don't wear mascara (or if you really want to, use a water based one or a mascara that's specifically formulated for eyelash extensions, like one of these).

  • Avoid oil based cosmetic products.

  • Don't use eyelash curlers.

  • Brush them gently with an eyelash brush (we'll give you one after the application) morning and night to detangle any crossed hairs.

  • Try not to touch them too much, as it could loosen or damage them.

  • Sleep on your back.

  • Get an infill every 2-3 weeks to keep your lashes looking full.

Still unsure about which eyelash extension style is best for you? Our door is always open, so pop in for a chat with one of our experienced lash girls, or try a Subtle set first to dip your toes in the water. And remember, if you don't end up loving your lash extensions as much as you thought you would and you want to go for a different style, we offer lash removal services too!
